Who am I / are we?

It’s Heather here! For those of you who just stumbled over to our blog, just in case you didn’t know, Beckton Snow is a pen name for two authors. We share social media, email, and even this blog! We often try to make sure to let people know who’s speaking, when relevant, so there’s no confusion. And we speak as one voice pretty much everywhere but here.

For this first post, I wanna let you know a bit about me. I’m a southern girl. I clearly can’t stick to one genre, or even name, but that’s okay. Beckton Snow is a lot more consistent than I am. They’ll be publishing paranormal and LGBT+ romances. We may start a new pen name for our fantasies we want to write together. Who knows? But the world of Beckton is huge, and we plan to keep Beckton writing for a very long time.

So, let’s start with how I met Britt. We were both on YouTube talking about books, then we became friends discussing writing and helping each other resolve mind-boggling issues with our stories. Eventually, I wanted to write a Halloween story with Britt. She said yes. And so, the world of Beckton (her creation) crossed with my world of Dewhurst, and Three Misfortunes was born.

Come the pandemic and an onset of depression as well as both of us struggling to write, we decided to do another Trev and Kev story. We wrote Ghostly Games, Haunted Hearts, and a completely unrelated spooky story in a matter of three weeks. Each of us brings out the best in each other, and we love writing together, so we decided to make a career out of it.

Last week, Britt mentioned wanting to have a joint pen name, so, the next day, I setup all our accounts. Since then, we’ve built this website, a newsletter, and edited two stories, one of which you can read for free by signing up to our newsletter. It’s been a hectic week, but now we’re coming out to the world (no pun intended).

Our stories aren’t about sexuality, they just happen to have way more non-straight / non-cis people than most books. The characters have spoken, and though they were only coded in Three Misfortunes, there’s no debating they aren’t straight in Beckton Snow books. Let’s just say Trevor and Kevin like to snog . . . a lot, and now Kim’s joined the snogging crew in Haunted Hearts, with a new girl character you haven’t met.

I think I can speak for the both of us when I say we’re really glad you’ve stopped by and we hope you keep following us to see what the attic crew is up to.

Now onto Britt . . .

Hey, everyone! I’m Britt, but some of you may know me as B.L. Koller. Heather gave me a delightful introduction, so I won’t say too much more.

I’ve been a fan of spooky things for as long as I can remember. I grew up watching TV shows like Courage The Cowardly Dog, Are You Afraid of The Dark, and INVADER ZIM. Those helped shape me into the writer I am today.

I’ve always loved a good mystery. Like most, my introduction to reading was my Grandma (Mema) who read at least one Nancy Drew per week. Can you guess which mysteries were my favorite? (If you guessed the ones with ghosts, you’d be correct.)

As I grew older and aged out of Nancy, I started reading many Japanese horror novels and mangas. In the summer of 2019, I read my first Stephen King book, Bag of Bones. I loved it so much I picked up two more (IT and Pet Semetary). Had it not been for Pet Semitary, my first novella, Rumours From The Attic, wouldn’t exist. For whatever reason, a zombie cat named after Winston Churchill solidified my need to become a Gothic Horror author, and the rest is history.
